and Resort History
It all began in
1954, when Harry
Handlery extended
the family hotel
business from San
Francisco into San
Diego. Originally
named the Stardust
Hotel, after the
famous Las Vegas
landmark, its main
attraction was the
flamboyant Reef
Lounge, which
featured
synchronized
underwater mermaid
swimmers.
In the 1980's, it
was renamed the
Handlery Hotel &
Country Club, and
re-focused to
accentuate the
family atmosphere.
Complete swim and
tennis facilities
were added, along
with a fully
equipped health
club.
It was finally
crowned The Handlery
Hotel & Resort
in the 1990's and
remains as one of
San Diego's favorite
family resorts. |
